April 5th 2011 Jazzkeller Frankfurt Party and Concert Celebrating 25 Years Musikmesse
Annual Musikmesse Warm Up Party in Jazzkeller Frankfurt hosted by Jon Hammond Band will be celebrating 25 consecutive years performing in the International Musikmesse which is the biggest event in the music lights and sound Industry.
Jon Hammond is very proud to announce the line up and happy to return again to the world famous stage of Jazzkeller Frankfurt, the oldest jazz club in all of Germany. Joe Berger guitar and Jon Hammond organ are both from USA, known affectionately to their music friends as Ham-Berger (we’re on a roll! Jon and Joe often say) long-time associates and a fixture at many trade shows, as seen on the long-running NYC based TV show “The Jon Hammond Show” now in 27th year. Tony Lakatos the great Hungarian tenor sax star from Budapest, from the famous Lakatos Family of Hungarian Gypsy music tradition going back generations. Tony is a lifetime member of the HR Hessischer Rundfunk Radio Big Band and currently playing with Herbie Hancock. Tony is an artist endorsee for P. Mauriat saxophones. Jon Hammond is extremely happy Tony will be rejoining the band in Jazzkeller, along with another long-time musical associate, Giovanni Gulino drums from Sicily Italy. Giovanni has been the house drummer for many years in Jazzkeller Frankfurt and Jazz Kneipe, he also comes from a family of musicians, his brother Sandro is an outstanding bass player. 20 years ago Jon was introduced to Tony and Giovanni by Regina Snilovic the owner of the Jazz Kneipe, which is now closed, but formerly presented live music 7 nights a week.

Tony, Giovanni and Jon were often the house band, by Jon played 207 gigs there with the boys, often joined by other well known musicians in the after hours, including: Attila Cornelius Zoller (June 13, 1927 – January 25, 1998) Jazz guitarist from Visegrád, Hungary R.I.P., Stephen Ferrone drummer of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, AWB and Eric Clapton. The music went on there often until 5AM in the morning, it was a meeting point for musicians and new arrivals to the Frankfurt scene as well as old-timers. Jazzkeller Frankfurt is a very special location and atmosphere with a very important history, a favorite of musicians and jazz fans going back to Louis Armstrong, Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, Chet Baker and many others. Jon Hammond calls Jazzkeller his “Good Luck Room” and Frankfurt his “Good Luck City”. This is the place where Jon had his very first Frankfurt gigs, the 3rd of a series was a packed full house after Jon Hammond appeared on the local TV program “Hessen Report” on RTL Plus Television. Beatrix Rief moderator host of Hessen Report recommended Jon Hammond’s show at the Jazzkeller and ever since a tradition has been established, Jon Hammond comes back to play there very year and will until the very end. SEIT 1952 WELSTARS “HAUTNAH”
Dr. Wolfgang Sandner
Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung, August 1999

Phoebe Snow, a bluesy singer, guitarist and songwriter whose “Poetry Man” was a defining hit of the 1970s but who then largely dropped out of the spotlight to care for her disabled daughter, died Tuesday. She was 60.

Michelle V. Agins/The New York Times
Phoebe Snow in concert at Birdland Jazz Club.
Ms. Snow, who was nominated for best new artist at the 1975 Grammy Awards, died in Edison, N.J., from complications of a brain hemorrhage she had in January 2010, said Rick Miramontez, her longtime friend and public relations representative.
Ms. Snow’s manager, Sue Cameron, said the singer endured bouts of blood clots, pneumonia and congestive heart failure since her stroke.
Known as a folk guitarist who made forays into jazz and blues, Ms. Snow put her stamp on soul classics like “Shakey Ground,” “Love Makes a Woman” and “Mercy, Mercy Mercy” on over a half dozen albums.
Not long after Ms. Snow’s “Poetry Man” reached the Top 5 on the pop singles chart in 1975, her daughter, Valerie Rose, was born with severe brain damage, and Ms. Snow decided to care for her at home rather than place her in an institution.
“She was the only thing that was holding me together,” she told The San Francisco Chronicle in 2008. “My life was her, completely about her, from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed at night.”
Valerie, who had been born with hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid in the brain cavity that inhibits brain development, was not expected to live more than a few years. She died in 2007 at age 31.
Over the years, Ms. Snow found time to sing on Paul Simon’s song “Gone at Last” and tour with him, as well as perform at the Woodstock 25th anniversary festival in 1994, as part of a soul act that included Thelma Houston, Mavis Staples and CeCe Peniston.
Snow was also recruited by Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen to participate in the New York Rock and Soul Revue, which took her, Charles Brown, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs and others on tour and into the Beacon Theatre to record a rollicking live album in 1991.
“Occasionally I put an album out, but I didn’t like to tour, and they didn’t get a lot of label support,” she told The Chronicle. “But you know what? It didn’t really matter because I got to stay home more with Valerie, and that time was precious.”
She was born Phoebe Ann Laub to white Jewish parents in New York City on July 17, 1950, and raised in Teaneck, N.J. Though many assumed she was black, Ms. Snow never claimed African-American ancestry.
She changed her name after seeing Phoebe Snow, an advertising character for a railroad, emblazoned on trains that passed through her town. Snow quit college after two years to perform in amateur nights at Greenwich Village folk clubs.
Her first record, “Phoebe Snow,” came out in 1974, and showed off her songwriting chops on a selection of tunes that spanned blues, jazz and folk. The hit-bound “Poetry Man” took the record to No. 4 on the album charts, but her success was uneasy.
“There are turning points in everyone’s life where you decide if you’re going to sink or swim. My insecurity wasn’t serving me well at all. It was really a stumbling block,” she told The Associated Press in 1989.
Rumors abounded that Jackson Browne was Poetry Man. “No, no, it’s somebody you wouldn’t know. People just thought ‘Poetry Man’ was Browne because he was the first act I toured with,” Ms. Snow told USA Today in 1989.
After 1976’s gold-selling “Second Childhood,” Ms. Snow’s subsequent albums found smaller audiences. Through the 1980s and into the 1990s, Snow sang commercial jingles — for companies including Michelob, Hallmark and AT&T — and performed live here and there.
Inexperienced in the music business, she broke a number of contracts with record companies and others, and found herself involved in a number of lawsuits and had financial problems. Ms. Snow’s husband, the musician Phil Kearns, left her while Valerie was a baby.
She sang the theme for NBC’s “A Different World” and the jingle “Celebrate the Moments of Your Life” for General Foods International Coffees. She also sang at the radio host Howard Stern’s wedding to Beth Ostrosky in 2008 and for President Bill Clinton, who asked her to perform at Camp David during his presidency.
In 2003, she released the CD “Natural Wonder,” her first album of new, original material in 14 years. Her other albums include 1989’s “Something Real,” and 1981’s “Rock Away.” In 2008, she released a live album titled “Live” and a best-of CD in 2001.

Al Foster (born January 18, 1944 in Richmond, Virginia) is an American jazz drummer. Foster played with Miles Davis’s large funk fusion group in the 70s, was one of the few people to have contact with Miles during his retirement, and was also part of his comeback album "The Man With the Horn" of 1981. He was the only musician to play in Miles’ band for both periods.

Biography
Foster grew up in New York. He began playing drums at the age of 13 and made his recording debut, with Blue Mitchell, at 16.[1]
He joined Miles Davis’s group when Jack DeJohnette left.[1] As a member of the Davis band from 1972 to 1985, Foster’s contribution to Davis’ music is articulated by Davis himself in his 1989 autobiography, Miles: The Autobiography, where Davis describes the first time he heard Foster play live in 1972 at the Cellar Club on 95th Street in Manhattan: ‘He [Foster] knocked me out because he had such a groove and he would just lay it right in there. That was the kind of thing I was looking for. AI could set it up for everybody else to play off and just keep the groove going forever."
Other artists Foster has performed and recorded with include Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Randy & Michael Brecker, Bill Evans, George Benson, Kenny Drew, Carmen McRae, Stan Getz, Toots Thielemans, Dexter Gordon, Hank Jones, George Mraz, Blue Mitchell and Chick Corea. Over the years, Foster has toured extensively with Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, and Joe Henderson, becoming a major attraction in all three bands as well as an integral part of them.
He is an all-round drummer, who has played in musical styles ranging from bebop to free form to jazz/rock.
Recently Foster has recorded and toured with his own band. He began composing in the 1970s. He likens it to playing chess with the piano. Although he does not read music, he can play his songs on the piano with a groove. Since 1996 Al has been touring with his own band, featuring bassist Douglas Weiss. The current band also features Israeli born Saxophonist Eli Degibri, and Adam Birnbaum on piano. The band has played over 1000 concert and club dates all over the world, including the UK, Italy, France, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Russia, South Africa.
Tony will join Al’s band in Amsterdam right after he plays tonight in Jazzkeller on Jon Hammond Band http://www.

Dr. Wolfgang Sandner
Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung, August 1999

Jon and Joe often say) long-time associates and a fixture at many trade shows, as seen on the long-running NYC based TV show "The Jon Hammond Show" now in 27th year.
Jon Hammond, Giovanni Gulino, Tony Lakatos 20 years ago in Jazz Kneipe Frankfurt
Jon Hammond calls Jazzkeller his "Good Luck Room" and Frankfurt his "Good Luck City". This is the place where Jon had his very first Frankfurt gigs, the 3rd of a series was a packed full house after Jon Hammond appeared on the local TV program "Hessen Report" on RTL Plus Television.
Jon and Joe often say) long-time associates and a fixture at many trade shows, as seen on the long-running NYC based TV show "The Jon Hammond Show" now in 27th year.
Jon Hammond, Giovanni Gulino, Tony Lakatos 20 years ago in Jazz Kneipe Frankfurt
Beatrix Rief moderator host of Hessen Report recommended Jon Hammond’s show at the Jazzkeller and ever since a tradition has been established, Jon Hammond comes back to play there very year and will until the very end. The historic appearance on Hessen Report: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cncN3PvqcQw
First lucky break for Jon Hammond in Frankfurt Germany appearing on Hessen Report RTL TV with big plug from moderator Beatrix Rief for upcoming shows at Jazzkeller. It was shot on a cold morning in Dec. 1991 in Venety’s on Sandweg in Frankfurt. Special thanks: Beatrix Rief, Tino Pavlis, Frank Poehl http://www.HammondCast.com/ From the time The Jon Hammond Band hits the stage of Jazzkeller Frankfurt for sound check
a good time will be had by all! And the very next morning we’ll see you on the Musikmesse bright and early for day 1 of the 2011 Musikmesse kicking off on 6th April running through the 9th. This is the place where Jon had his very first Frankfurt gigs, the 3rd of a series was a packed full house after Jon Hammond appeared on the local TV program "Hessen Report" on RTL Plus Television.
Jon and Joe often say) long-time associates and a fixture at many trade shows, as seen on the long-running NYC based TV show "The Jon Hammond Show" now in 27th year.
Jon Hammond, Giovanni Gulino, Tony Lakatos 20 years ago in Jazz Kneipe Frankfurt
