LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY– Jon Hammond Quartet, One Night Only with John Bishop guitar, Ronnie Smith Jr. drums, Louisville guitarist John Bishop who was finishing his Masters Degree in Music at University of Louisville at the time. Jon Hammond took Bay Area musicians Ronnie Smith Jr. drums, Alex Budman tenor sax and his Hammond organ there to Louisville to play what was originally supposed to be a live radio broadcast, 2 night-gig at The Jazz Factory, it turned in to One Night Only and John Bishop burned the house down..he was so mad at some of the local jazz hosers there at the University music program and at the club we were playing (we won’t mention any names but one has a popular play along series). Ronnie Smith Jr. is one of the very best Shuffle & Funk drummers of the Bay Area, Alex Budman on tenor sax and Organist Leader & Radio TV Broadcaster Jon Hammond playing theme song “LATE RENT” a driving Shuffle. Late Rent is the theme song of The Jon Hammond Show TV Show and HammondCast radio show aka “Jon Hammond’s Afternoon Slide” on CBS Radio KYOU and KYCY. CAMERA: JENNIFER Next morning we met Fred Noe III “The Bourbon Ambassador” of Jim Beam Liquors flying out of Louisville SDF. Special. thanks to Martin Z. Kasdan Jr. for the mention in his local column, the club was PACKED.

Tech Talk from Jon Hammond: Playing Hammond organ through Fender Tube Amps

January 5, 2010

Jon Hammond:
I own 2 Hammond B3 organs and Leslie speakers, unfortunately they will not fit in a taxi cab, so these days I play most of my road gigs using either my Hammond XK-1 organ or my Hammond XK-3 organ and I like to play them through my vintage Fender tube amps, I have 2 1965 Fender amps, a piggy back Fender Band-Master with stock factory 12″ Jensen speakers and my Twin Reverb with original JBL Speakers option. The Twin was formerly owned by John McFee when he was in Clover and Flying Circus and at that time he had it maintained by Randall Smith of Prune who started Boogie Amp company. I purchased the amp in 1981, it still has Flying Circus stencil on top of the amp.
My Band-Master is now maintained by Scott Robinson who is Vice President of CHRS California Historical Radio Society.
I also have a 150 watt Music Man HD-212 hybrid amp that is a monster.
Jon’s amps: Fender Band-Master Piggyback Amp:

Jon’s amps with Hammond XK-1 organ at home, always practice while watching TV and listening to the radio for independence real-world simulation, split the brain:
