LIVE in The Bitter End http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bitter_End

The Bitter End is a nightclub in New York City’s Greenwich Village. It opened its doors in 1961 at 147 Bleecker Street under the auspices of owner Fred Weintraub. The club changed its name to The Other End during the 1970s. However eventually after a few years the owners changed the club’s name back to the more recognizable Bitter End.

History

An earlier club, “The Cock and Bull” operated on the same premises with the same format, in the late 1950s. The poet/comedian Hugh Romney (who later became known as Wavy Gravy) read there.
During the early 1960s the club hosted Folk music “hootenanies” every Tuesday night, featuring many performers who have since become legendary. During its heyday the Bitter End showcased a wide range of talented and legendary musicians, comedians, and theatrical performers.[1]
In 1968 Paul Colby, who began his career as a song plugger for Benny Goodman’s publishing company, and went on to work for Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, and Guy Lombardo, became the manager and booking agent at The Bitter End, and in 1974 he purchased it.[2][3]
In the mid 1970s, the club became known as the birthplace of Bob Dylans Rolling Thunder Revue, which featured such names as Joni Mitchell, Roger McGuinn, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Joan Baez, T-Bone Burnett, Ronee Blakely, Mick Ronson, and many other guest stars.
The City of New York bestowed landmark status to the night club on July 23, 1992.

Alternative To Clips On Cable by Kim Freeman Billboard Magazine March 19, 1984

NEW YORK—Year-old BackBeat Productions hopes to break new ground in the video medium with it’s first project, “The Jon Hammond Show.” Currently airing on Manhattan Cable’s Channel 3 and San Francisco’s public access Channel 25, the program is a half hour of computer generated graphics synchronized with original jazz-fusion and rock music. Hammond’s voice and his tapping boot are the only human intrusions during the show.
“It’s an alternative to the conceptual and concert footage videos. We’re delivering an art form.” says the show’s host, BackBeat’s co-founder Jon Hammond. The company also functions as a label, and Hammond says the broadcast will be a vehicle to expose artists on the BackBeat roster.
Hammond say’s he’s close to securing slots on public access channels in New Orleans, Baltimore, Chicago, Los Angeles and Boston and plans to recoup investements by syndicating the show to national networks if and when it gains an audience.
His partner in the venture is former Crusaders guitarist Barry Finnerty, who wrote the music for the first program. All songs on the “Jon Hammond Show” feature BackBeat’s studio band of Finnerty, keyboardist Hammond, drummer Steve Ferrone and saxophonist Todd Anderson.

All songs on the “Jon Hammond Show” feature BackBeat’s studio band of Finnerty, keyboardist Hammond, drummer Steve Ferrone and saxophonist Todd Anderson.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chico_Hamilton

Chico Hamilton (born Foreststorn Hamilton, September 20, 1921), is an American jazz drummer and bandleader.

Hamilton was born in Los Angeles, California. He had a fast-track musical education in a band with Charles Mingus, Illinois Jacquet, Ernie Royal, Dexter Gordon, Buddy Collette and Jack Kelso. Engagements with Lionel Hampton, Slim & Slam, T-Bone Walker, Lester Young, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Barnet, Billy Eckstine, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Billie Holiday, Gerry Mulligan and six years with Lena Horne established him as a jazz drummer,[1] and he struck out on his own as a bandleader in 1955.
Hamilton appeared in the March Milastaire number in the film You’ll Never Get Rich (1941) as part of the backing group supporting Fred Astaire, and performed on the soundtrack of the Bing Crosby/Bob Hope film Road to Bali.
He recorded his first album as leader in 1955 with George Duvivier (double-bass) and Howard Roberts (jazz guitar) for Pacific Jazz. In same year Hamilton formed an unusual quintet in L.A. featuring cello, flute, guitar, bass and drums.[2] The quintet has been described as one of the last important West Coast Jazz bands.[1] The original personnel included flutist Buddy Collette, guitarist Jim Hall, cellist Fred Katz and bassist Jim Aton, who was later replaced by Carson Smith. Hamilton continued to tour using different personnel, from 1957 to 1960. The group including flutist Paul Horn and John Pisano was featured in the film Sweet Smell of Success in 1957. The same group, this time including Nate Gershman and Eric Dolphy appeared in the film Jazz on a Summer’s Day in 1960. He marked his first recordings with Eric Dolphy on With Strings Attached, Gongs East, The Three Faces of Chico, and That Hamilton Man.

In March 2011, with his 90th birthday six months off, Hamilton trekked out of his New York City penthouse apartment to helm a marathon recording session resulting in 28 new tracks with his Euphoria group. No one woodsheds like a jazz drummer, and coming off a health setback during the Summer of 2010, Hamilton and his Euphoria group began sheding at weekly rehearsals at Hamilton’s Penthouse A. These weekly rehearsals played an important part in Hamilton’s rehabilitation, facilitated Hamilton and his group becoming very tight with each other and exploring places musically they had not previously gone together, and brought together a wealth of new original material, offered up in three courses, each of which is a different viewpoint of Hamilton’s Revelation.

Special guest recordings of Jon with radio legend Al Jazzbeaux Collins telling the story of Jon’s composition “Train Song” and with Chuy Varela talking about the meaning of Jon’s song “Get Back In The Groove” played 2 different ways: from “Hammond’s Bolero” CD 2003 release (instrumental) and a 1981 version from DTI Records label with Frank Biner on vocals and Jon covering all the instruments + Dave Danza on the drums. Last song: “Czechoslovakian Salsa Song”-JON HAMMOND Trio.

Incredible dialogue between Al Jazzbo Collins and Cynthia Tornquist of CNN she learns a lot from Jazzbeaux about the Purple Grotteaux and the night world of Jazz Musicians and the special people in the Al’s world. Whether Cynthia knows it or not she is being majooberized!
Jazzbo leads the famous call and response based on the 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. In one scene some obviously very bad banditos try to pass themselves off to Bogart as federales (police). Humphrey Bogart’s character knows they are not federales but nevertheless asks to see some badges. The bandito-in-charge responds “Badges?! I don’t got no badges. We don’t need no badges! I don’t have to show you any stinkin’ badge.”
Most special broadcast and painting of the manhole cover door to Purple Grotteaux seen world wide on CNN TV as shot by Jon Hammond personally, enjoy folks!
*Note: The phone number for BackBeat Productions running on this clip was taken over by the IRS Internal Revenue Servie after a long battle with Jon Hammond, they had a bank of numbers 340-9000, 9001 etc. so they really wanted 212-340-9007 they finally got it. If you call it now you’ll get the IRS not Jon Hammond folks!
3 minutes and 39 seconds in to the clip, Jazzbo says he needs a pencil, I hand him my black Chinese Lacquer S.T. Dupont pen, he then writes down the name of Cynthia Tornquist just before going live on-air then hands it back to me and says: “Thank you Man it’s a very smooth pen.”
Special thanks Lew Anderson big band, Lew was Clarabell the Clown on Howdy Doody TV Show between 1954 and 1960 his music playing while Jon Hammond takes you on a tour of the food of Horn & Hardart Automat at corner of 42nd St. and Third Avenue in Manhattan just below the main studios of WNEW Radio, now 1130 is Bloomberg Radio. JON HAMMOND Jazz Man

Jon Hammond’s story is one of survival. Survival as a jazz musician, survival as a Manhattanite. The organist-accordionist has survived because of perseverance, love of his art, tremendous humor, and gratitude. His new independently produced and marketed CD, HAMMOND’S BOLERO, which contains only music written by Hammond, is both a statement and a tribute. As his CD notes begin, “This record marks a new beginning for me, and I would like to dedicate it to all those who, like myself, are striking out on their own and going it alone. Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams. I did and now this record is for you!” Following his dream at times has not been easy.

Take his living situation. Hammond is fairly new to Manhattan Plaza—a resident for just two years—and like everything else involving this multitalented man, there’s an interesting story attached. “I’m living under a lucky star after years of putting up with all kinds of adverse conditions. Manhattan Plaza has been a great, great help for me.” Living in the Clinton area, Hammond survived six ceiling collapses in his apartment and was finally driven out by sick building syndrome, i.e. poisonous mold in the walls. He realized it only after watching an epsode of 60 MINUTES. Did he sue? “No,” he says. “Put it this way—the title song for my TV show is called ‘Late Rent.’ I used to pay my landlord partial payments, etc. so I never sued.”

As a further testament to his Manhattan survival, Hammond is a nineteen-year-veteran of cable access with his own television show, aptly titled THE JON HAMMOND SHOW. Manhattan Plaza residents Todd Anderson (tenor sax) and Bill Warfield (trumpet) have been featured as part of the band. the show airs on Monday at 9:30 p.m. on channels 56 and 108 and various times on other channels. For more information, viewers can check Hammond’s website, http://community.webtv.net/laterent/JONHAMMOND

But before the glamour of Manhattan, CD’s, opening for Bonnie Raitt, and some other high-class gigs, Hammond paid his dues. Attending the Berklee college of Music in Boston in 1973, he earned money on the wild side. “I used to play in these Mafia striptease clubs seven nights a week. Boy, that was the end of an era. I was working for the Venus brothers, notorious gangsters, and I was the house organist at the infamous 2 O’Clock Lounge, the Mousetrap Lounge, The Hungry I—all these clubs that were in what was known as the Combat Zone in Boston.”

And how did he get to New York? “Well, I knew a stripper named Didi Bangbang, a really nice girl. She knew I had a van. When you have a van, you get some interesting calls. She had a show at this burlesque club in New York so she said, ‘Drive me and I’ll introduce you to New York.’ This was in 1975. She had wild props, like a plexiglass round platform with disco lights inside of it. We loaded everything in this army green van and drove to New York.”

From New York, Hammond went on the road with a show band called Easy Living “It was one of the top show bands—this was before disco—and you’d get on the different circuits. We were in the $10,000-a-week bracket.”

Just one problem. “I get the call for a really great gig, but it’s always at the end. When you see me show up, it’s a doomsday situation. The band toured for six months. We were in Toronto working at the Four Seasons Inn on the Park, one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever been in in my life. I was living like a king. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. Well, they had installed a DJ booth—the first place we ever played with one installed. He played on our breaks. They would cross-fade, meaning we would re-enter playing the music he had been playing. But I could see the handwriting on the wall. The disco thing had not really come in and taken over yet—the very first tune that was a big disco hit was “The Hustle.” “We had to do it with the band. That tune was like the death knell. Disco came in and the bands went out.”

A musician’s life involves a lot of travel, and that Hammond has done—back and forth throughout North America, from New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Cape Cod, and Toronto. “Around 1977, I ended up in Boston again. There I heard through the grapevine that Lou Colombo, the trumpet player, was looking for an organist for a private harbor club in Harwichport, Massachussets. Another great job. One of the members was Tip O’Neil, who became Speaker of the House, and I played all of his private parties. He was always very nice. That lasted for two years and then they reduced the nights.”

In September 1981, Hammond fulfilled his dream of a lifetime—traveling to Paris on the Concorde. “I lived it out exactly as I saw it in my dream.” Hammond recalls. “I had a haircut. I bought a dark blue suit. I bought a case that I still travel with today. Every man was wearing the same suit I was. As soon as the plane took off, I realized I was leaving the continent for the first time and I got very emotional.”

Hammond stayed in Paris “as long as I could. I wrote music there. It was more than I hoped it would be. I swore I’d come back to live. I ended up in Europe for six years, actually in Frankfurt, going back and forth to the States, from 1991 to 1997.” For being a consultant on the design, Suzuki gave him an XB-2 Hammond organ, which was a big help to him.

A career change occurred when he and his band were hired to play at the Jazzkeller in Frankfurt. “I went on a TV show to promote it,” he recalls, “Later on, I took a cab to the club and there was a huge commotion outside. I thought it was due to a group playing an earlier set. I said to the cab driver, ‘Gee, I hope they finish soon.’ the driver said, “They’re waiting for you.;” Though Hammond did very well in Europe, including a concert on Radio France, a trade war soon found american jazz musicians being cut out of European work. “I came home on Pakistan Airlines” the former Concorde passenger remembers. Hammond is used to the roller coaster ride of the musician—one day on tour with Percy Sledge, the next day coming home from France with $50.

Hammond recently returned from successful concerts in Germany at the International Trade show “Musikmesse” for the seventeenth consecutive year with his co-producer Joe Berger, of Ham-Berger-Friz Records, the producer of the CD. You got it. Hamburger/fries. Hammond’s CD is currently getting radio play in Germany and National Public Radio stations in the U.S. Several manhattan Plaza residents are involved in the CD. On April 28, he had a launch party at Le Bar Bat.

Though only occasionally veering outside of the music world, Hammond did something unusual in 2001. “My mother called me and said, ‘Jon, they’re hiring at United Airlines.’ I thought, what can it hurt to please my mother, I”ll apply. I did get an offer but I was unable to take it because it involved transporting luggage, and I couldn’t do it because of my bad back. However, they then found out that I speak German. I was offered a better job in International. Now guess when I was supposed to start training? October 2001. Well, you know what happened to the airlines after 9/11, and you know what I said about getting a gig at the death knell. So this told me one thing, I’m supposed to be a musician.” He’s right.

Miracle on 42nd Street Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-0A56IC6uM

MIRACLE ON 42ND STREET is a feature length documentary about the unique apartment complex called Manhattan Plaza located in Manhattan’s historic theatre district, a neighborhood also known as Hell’s Kitchen. Located on the block between 42nd and 43rd Streets, it is often called the “Miracle on 42nd Street” due to the near-miraculous effect the complex has had on the once-blighted neighborhood and on the lives of its residents. Seventy percent of the occupants work in the performing arts and thirty percent are Hell’s Kitchen residents who are elderly, disabled or have been relocated from substandard housing. The film tells the story of how this innovative affordable housing experiment came to be, the artists it has nurtured, the close community its residents and management have created and the positive impact it has had on the economy of Manhattan’s West Side. The filmmakers, several of whom are current and former residents, are passionate about sharing the story of Manhattan Plaza with the world. It is a unique model of what can be achieved by bringing together over 3,500 people from differing cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds. The film is intended for festival release and to air on television. We hope that by making this film, the example of Manhattan Plaza will inspire new ways of thinking about affordable housing in cities around the globe. We believe that Manhattan Plaza’s success was brought about by the creative community it housed, people whose dreams and goals might not have been realized had it not been for the opportunity of living in Manhattan Plaza. People like Broadway composer Alan Menken, Terrence Howard, Alicia Keys, Tennessee Williams, Marin Alsop (groundbreaking female orchestra conductor), Dexter Gordon, Larry David, Charles Mingus, Mickey Rourke, Andrea McArdle (Broadway’s first Annie) and Sandy, her dog. Samuel L. Jackson worked there as a security guard in his first and only non-acting job.

Meet The Incredible Sk1 Hammond with Michael Falkenstein and Jon Hammond

Filmed in Hammond-Showroom Karlstrasse 38
D-89129 Langenau Germany on April 19th 2011
“Meet The Incredible Sk1 Hammond with Michael Falkenstein and Jon Hammond”
First look at this exciting new keyboard product weighing in at 7 kilos, just over 15 lbs., it sounds like a real Hammond B3 organ with Leslie, or a full size grand piano, any type of famous vintage electric piano or synthesizer. This keyboard does it all and with original Hammond drawbars and it’s feather light. Sk1 has a built in USB flash drive input, the keys are ‘bullet proof’ waterfall style keys that can hold up to extreme pressure of rockin’ rock musicians, swinging jazz musicians and can even sound like a huge pipe organ. This film will blow your mind.

And a slow rainy day Blues featuring guitarist JOE BERGER and RAY GRAPPONE drums, Jon on the XB-2 organ/bass. Also a 35 year-old recording of my old rock band HADES and a shout out to the bass player STEVE WRIGHT who is recuperating from a stroke and heart attack but is now starting to speak again, get better Steve! From there to 1995 recording in LE BAR BAT NYC playing Jon’s tune “Pocket Funk”. A song I recorded with Eddie Money that is close to Eddie’s heart: “I’ve Been Lovin’ You Too Long” for all the Eddie Money freaks out there. I just saw Eddie in NY and he’s doin’ fine, still touring in a city near you! And finally ending up back in AFN Europe Headquarters playing Jon Hammond’s theme song: “LATE RENT”, dedicated to YOU of KYOU the your Rent will never be Late! http://www.HammondCast.com

Evolution of Jon Hammond Accordion

Zen and the Art of Slinging Soup / Ex-GE exec Richard Gaule on what he gets out of feeding and befriending the denizens of the Tenderloin
By Todd Dayton

A man with a graying beard and greasy long hair orders a Polish dog with chili and methodically arranges condiments on the counter, then buries the dog in mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, chopped onions, jalapenos and cheddar until the condiments are taken away. A cane-toting elderly man missing three front teeth hovers over a bowl of cereal, discussing the Yankees with a friend.

A homeless woman wearing a dark sweatshirt with its hood pulled over her head meekly asks for a chili cheese dog, no potato chips, and permission to use the restroom, please.

These are some of the regulars at Soups, a tiny Tenderloin eatery specializing in hot stuff that comes in a bowl, plus a few extras like sandwiches and hot dogs. Richard Gaule knows most of his customers by name Ð Garth with his Polish dog, the Yankees-hating Sylvester, and Charlene with the hooded sweatshirt – and greets them when they grab one of the 11 seats. The boxcar-shaped shop is basically just a long brown Formica counter, where 100 customers a day get a view of the restaurant’s tireless proprietor and a half- dozen stainless steel electric soup pots wearing crocheted lid holders. A couple hundred people stop in frequently – Gaule’s regulars, his friends – but he says he keeps track of a couple thousand names of the people he’s met over the years. He makes a mistake from time to time, but he doesn’t make many.

For nearly a decade, the lanky redheaded proprietor, whose youthful face and agility belie his 60 years, has served a slowly evolving customer base drawn mostly from the immediate neighborhood. They come from the residential hotels, and the apartment buildings, from the doorways that offer shelter and a home to those who don’t have one. Sandwiched in between a residential hotel and a cocktail lounge on a slightly seedy stretch of O’Farrell Street, Soups is the kind of place one might pass by for years without noticing it among the bars and auto body shops that line the street.

The sign above the door reads “Everyone Welcome,” and it’s true, but the folks he’s really here for are those most in need. Gaule opened Soups as a cheap and healthy eatery for the neighborhood’s financially challenged residents, a sort of for-profit soup kitchen for those a few bucks above broke.

“I really wanted something that would make me feel like life was worth living, ” he says..

Need Some Soup for the Soul? Get It Piping Hot in Tenderloin

Sean Paul Forsha

Friday

(06-24) 04:00 PST San Francisco — If Richard Gaule had his way, all the ills of the Tenderloin would be cured with a steaming bowl of soup.

Wedged in between two bars along a breezy strip of O’Farrell Street, Gaule’s restaurant carries a bright sign announcing “Soups — Good Food — Healthy — Everyone Welcome.” Its owner is a quirky fellow with an infectious smile who decided eight years ago he wanted to open a business that would help the community.

“I first thought about opening a video store or a fish and pet store,” said Gaule, who used to manage residential apartments in the neighborhood but now drives in five days a week from Novato, where he lives with his wife, Marilyn. “Then I thought, if people ate better, they could get healthy and eventually get themselves out of this neighborhood.”

Thus, Soups was born in August 1992. However, at the time, the singular would’ve been more appropriate. Gaule, who admits he never cooked a meal before he opened his restaurant, started with only one soup: potato.

“It took me two weeks to perfect that one,” Gaule laughed, as he prepared the restaurant for a recent lunch crush, stirring chunks of chicken and corn into one pot and tasting the seasoning on the chili in another. “But I’ve read a lot of recipes and taken comments from my customers, and I think the soups have gotten a lot better.”

Now, Gaule makes six soups daily and also offers hot dogs ($2.50) and very basic sandwiches ($2.75). Vegetable, chicken noodle and chili are the mainstays, but he also whips up a mean lima bean and ham and split pea. “I try to make all my soups as healthy as possible,” he said, insisting that he refuses to use cream in his recipes.

For $3.75, you get a well-filled bowl of soup, all the crackers you can manage and a choice of coffee, tea or milk. When the bowl runs down, Gaule ladles in another serving and pushes more crackers your way. He also supplies onions and cheese to add to the soup and jalapenos to “kick out the evil spirits.”

With this deal, it’s easy to see why the 11-seat counter — rescued from the old Woolworth’s store on Market Street — is always full. It’s an interesting group that frequents Soups. Gaule describes them as “people you’d see on the bus.”

Like Ralphie, a feisty old guy who ambles up to the counter telling Gaule and the others about his new practice of wearing two wrist watches.

“I’m right on time,” he says.

One day not long ago, Gaule said District Attorney Terence Hallinan was seated at the counter next to three drug dealers. When one of the dealers realized it was Hallinan, he took Gaule aside and asked him to take a picture of the scene.

“He (Hallinan) had no idea who he was having lunch with,” Gaule laughed.

A HANDSHAKE AND A SMILE

Gaule, on the other hand, knows almost everyone who eats at his counter. He welcomes returnees by name and introduces himself to first-timers with a handshake and a smile.

He is devoted to his regular customers, as the mini-shrine in the back corner indicates. Arranged collage-style are more than 100 pictures of his favorite guests, with a small placard in the front that reads, “Friendship, Community, Support and Fun.” Placed in the middle is a photo of Gaule dressed as Superman with the words “Super-Friend” emblazoned on his chest.

Gaule admits that his years behind the counter are numbered. He allows himself two vacations a year but looks forward to spending more time hiking and tide-pooling with Marilyn. Until then, you’ll catch him manning the ladles and keeping the Tenderloin healthy.

Amplifier Tech Talk from Jon Hammond on Standel Fender Vintage Amps with Organ Tech Talk from Jon Hammond of HammondCast KYOU Radio

Folks, Jon Hammond here in New York City today, every day I play my Hammond XK-3 organ through

an older Solid State Standel The Artist X Amplifier which looks like hell now but still sounds

great. I know that over the years Standel amps have been the choice of top players such as

Wes Montgomery and Chet Atkins *see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standel

I contacted Danny Sage McKinney yesterday who keeps the legacy of Bob Crooks Standel Musical

Instrument Amplifiers Company going today in Los Angeles CA

http://www.standelamps.com/about_us/story/index.html

and he kindly got right back to me personally with the following information about my trusty

old Standel Amp, as follows:

“Hi Jon,

Your Standel was built in 1965/66. It has 40 watts of power output (80 watts is power consumption with the amp being 50% efficient) and four ten-inch Jensen speakers.

Hope that helps.

All the best,

Danny “Sage” McKinney
The Standel Co.”

The Amp (sounds way better than it looks folks): (original casters)

Back of Amp, notice information is scratched on the plates with a tool

Close up image Standel The Artist X

with spring reverb and tremelo

I first came in to contact with Standel amps when I shared a rehearsal space in

San Francisco with the band Quicksilver Messenger Service. John Cipollina one of

the 2 guitarists (Gary Duncan was other guitarist) had a very unique set up

in our rehearsal hall on Harrison St. SF, incorporating 6 Fender Twin Reverb Amps,

4 Fender Dual Showman heads and 2 big 2 x 15″ Standel amps on either side with

similar front panel configuration to my Artist model. He also had his rig going

through brass high frequency horns. It was loud and it sounded good!

I got my Standel amp at Silver & Horland music shop on 48th St. in NYC in the

late 70’s for 90 bucks and it’s still working today.

Yesterday we featured some of the lost tapes of our good friend Les Paul R.I.P.

Organist Accordionist Jon Hammond says: “I have been using stock 1965 Fender vintage Band-Master piggyback amps and 1965 Fender Twin Reverb amp with factory JBL speaker option to power my XK-1 and XK-3 organs, also XB-2 prior to that. You can’t beat that combination on the band stand as a portable solution to the classic B3 Leslie combo (I own 2 B3’s, a 1965 and 1959 models with stock 122 and Bill Beer custom high-power Keyboard Products Leslie in flight cases) this sound has served me well for many years. I started playing professional gigs with a blonde 1964 Fender Band-Master I scored from Leo at Leo’s Music in Oakland CA with my electric Giulietti accordion. These amps are well suited to either accordion or Hammond organ by nature. In 1987 I had the good fortune to meet Leo Fender on the way back to USA from the Frankfurt Musikmesse, we had a lengthy discussion in Frankfurt Airport on this topic. Nobody has come up with a better more comfortable sound solution for my own taste yet, and the Hammond Suzuki engineers have done a wonderful job at recreating the sound and feel of the real deal Hammond organs with the XK series, and I still use my XB-2 organs on occasion also.”

HAMMOND ARTIST JON HAMMOND AT MUSIKMESSE For 24 years, jazz organist
Jon Hammond has brought a touch of New York soul to the Musikmesse Trade show in Frankfurt, Germany with an all-star band. This year was no exception, and joining Jon and his Hammond XK-1 on the stand was Giovanni Gulino on drums, Tony Lakatos on tenor saxophone, and Jon’s long-time guitarist Joe Berger. The event was the Musikmesse Warm Up Party at the Jazzkeller in Frankfurt. Here are a couple of videos from the date. We think they got it wrong–this ain’t “Warm”, it’s RED HOT!!
